wednesday-picture MUSIC WALL: We are excited about a new project we would like to undertake to add to our outdoor playground and learning spaces. Our idea is to have a music wall attached to one of our outdoor areas. We need your help. Please help us find some of the following items: metal pots, frying pans, muffin tins, cookie sheets, oven racks, large coffee tins, metal colanders, water bottles or anything else you can think of that could make music. (These items do not need to be new). If you are able to pierce a hole (or two or three) in the item so we could attach it with a zip strap to a fence, that would be even more helpful to us!

If you are interested in finding out more about outdoor music walls for ideas, you can find lots of images and information on the internet.

Thank you for supporting our endeavor! Please send in any music wall donations to the school office from now until the Christmas holiday.

There will be a ‘gradual entry’ for Kindergarten students so that children have time to become accustomed to their new school life. Letters regarding gradual entry have been mailed to parents who have registered their child. Please contact the office if you have any questions.

Elementary School Students (grade 1 to 5):

Students begin the school year with their last year’s teacher and classroom. Students will stay with their previous teacher until the School Board announces that we can move students to their new teacher and classroom. All effort is made for this to be done as quickly as possible.

When the warning bell rings at 8:40 on the first day, students should line up in their old classroom line.

New Elementary School Students:

The warning bell will ring at 8:40. At this time, all new students will go to the Elementary School gym. Once there, students will be brought to their temporary classroom, where they will stay until the School Board announces that we can move the students to their new classroom and teacher. All effort is made for this to be done as quickly as possible.

Middle School Students: (new and returning):

When the warning bell rings at 8:40, all middle school students should go to the Middle School gym. Once there, students should look for their name on the posted class lists and then go stand with their new teacher. There will be a short assembly before students move on to their new classrooms.

School Supplies – When do we bring them to school?

Grades 1, 2 and 3

Students should only bring their pencil case and lunch kit for first week. If families have ordered school supplies online, Staples will be contacting families directly regarding supplies. If you have not, please bring all supplies on Monday September 12th.

Grades 4 & 5

For students in grades 4 and 5, school supplies have been purchased in bulk and will be shared collectively amongst students. These supplies will be set up by teaching staff in the classrooms. Students should bring their pencil case and lunch kit for first week. For families who did not purchase the group supplies before the July deadline, opportunity to participate will be provided in September.

Grades 6, 7 and 8

Students should bring their pencil case and lunch kit for first two days or until their teachers direct them when to bring in their full supplies. If they have ordered their supplies online, Staples will be contacting families directly regarding these supplies.

**Please note for supplies for grades 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 if you have not yet ordered your school supplies on line through Staples, this service is no longer available. The school supply lists are on our website or at Staples.

We will be sending any unclaimed report cards out in the mail at the beginning of the week of July 4th, unless we hear otherwise from parents.  If you do not wish the report cards to be mailed please contact the office Monday morning.

It has been an exciting year full of learning and fun for us all! We wish all parents and students a safe and fun-filled summer! See you on Tuesday, September 6th! More details for September start-up will be posted at the end of August.

Students will need footwear and a coat (raincoat if the weather calls for it) appropriate for a walk to the Q Center at the Juan De Fuca Recreation Centre. They will also need a ‘pocket snack’ – a small snack that can fit easily in their pocket- so that they are not carrying a bag with them to the stadium.

A HUGE shout out to the members of the TC10K team  who raced bright and early on Sunday morning with over 7000 runners in Victoria. For most members of the team, this was their first 10K race which is no small feat. As a team, we finished in an average time of 54 minutes and 52 seconds.  Bravo!

We are very proud to announce that the John Stubbs TC10K team was awarded the Team Spirit Award!!! Well done team!  Great way to represent John Stubbs!
